St. Louis - The Maryville women's basketball team was looking to topple No. 20 Southern Indiana but the Saints missed out for in their upset bid against the second straight ranked foe to come to Moloney Arena. USI recorded a 74-50 win Saturday afternoon. During the game, Alex Wolf became the 11th Maryville player to record 500 career rebounds.

Amanda Ponce sank two free throws to give the Saints an early 2-0 lead. The teams traded the advantage back-and-fourth.
Alex Wolf grabbed an offensive rebound for a stick back and a 9-8 lead. USI scored the last five points of the quarter to surge ahead.
Mary Barton nailed a 3-pointer to start the second and pull the Saints to 13-12. Later,
Ali Ringering sank a triple to keep Maryville close at 16-15. The Screaming Eagles were up 21-17 before reeling off a 10-2 burst. Barton scored at the halftime buzzer as Maryville was still down 31-21.

Early in the third, Ringering and Ponce scored consecutive buckets as the Saints got as close as they would in the second half at 33-27 at the 7:09 mark.
Kayla Steward tallied a layup to trim the USI lead to 37-29. The visitors tacked on a 10-2 run to put the game away.

Ringering paced the Saints with 13 points and six rebounds. Barton added 12 points, while Steward chipped in 10 points and had three blocked shots. With her second board of the game, Wolf reached the 500-rebound mark in her career. Hannah Wascher finished with 26 points and 16 rebounds as Southern Indiana improved to 21-4 overall, 13-2 in the GLVC.

The Saints stand at 11-11 overall, 7-8 in the league. Maryville is back at home Thursday, Feb. 16, when it hosts Drury for #1000Saints Night at 5:30 p.m.
