Ringering Pours in Career-High 26 Points in 80-67 Win over Missouri S&T

- Ali Ringering poured in a career-high 26 points as the Maryville women's basketball team clinched a spot in the 2017 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with an 80-67 win over Missouri S&T. Senior Alex Wolf notched a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Down one at halftime, the Saints used a big third quarter to take control. Wolf started the third quarter with two straight layups to push the Saints ahead for good. Maryville was still up 49-48 before Kayla Steward and Amanda Ponce hit consecutive buckets. Steward added two free throws for a 55-48 lead. The teams traded 3-pointers, but after two Lady Miner free throws, Wolf and Steward scored for a 62-53 lead.
 
Maryville used an 11-4 burst to open the fourth quarter and take control. Ringering drilled a 3-pointer for a 65-55 edge. Wolf scored, and after a Lady Miner bucket, Ringering drained back-to-back triples as the Saints surged to a 73-57 lead with 6:22 to play. Missouri S&T got as close as 10 points but the Saints sealed the win by scoring the next seven points.
 
Ringering hit 10-of-13 shots, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, en route to her career-best outing. In addition, she dished out seven assists. Stephanie Sherwood finished with 16 points, while Mary Barton added 10 points. The Saints finished the game shooting 52.8 percent and converted 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from 3-point range. Kate Brown led Missouri S&T (10-15, 5-12 GLVC) with 16 points and seven boards.
 
The Saints square their record at 12-12 overall, 8-9 in the GLVC. Maryville closes out the regular season at crosstown-rival University of Missouri-St. Louis Thursday, Feb. 23. The GLVC Tournament will begin Sunday, Feb. 26, versus an opponent and location to be determined.
