NCAA Super Region III bracket results
Moorhead, Minn. - At the NCAA Division II Wrestling Super Region III in Moorhead, Minn., the No. 2 ranked Maryville squad stands in third place with 55 points after day one. Maryville sits behind St. Cloud State (76.5) and McKendree (59.5). The Saints still have six competitors in the championship draw and two wrestlers in the consolation bracket.

The tournament resumes Saturday, Feb. 25, with the semifinals at 11 a.m., and the place matches are slated to begin at 4 p.m. The top four finishers in each weight class will advance to the national championships in Birmingham, Ala.

In the opening round, the Saints stormed out to an 8-2 record that featured three falls and three major decisions as Maryville amassed early team points.
Jaret Singh, the fourth seed, set the tone for a strong opening as he posted a 10-2 major at 125. No. 5
Dakota Bauer followed up in his 133 contest with the exact same score for another major decision.
Nate Rodriguez, who is ranked No. 1 at 141, pushed the Saints further ahead with a pin in just 2:34. No. 2
James Krischke had a 4-2 decision at 149, and
Greg Hegarty recorded the second fall of the day with a pin at 6:15 for the third-seeded wrestler at 157.

The Saints suffered losses by
Derrick Swaney at 165 and
Tyler Harrington at 174 but top-seeded
Ethan Sherertz put Maryville back on track at 197 with another pin, this time in just 120 seconds. No. 3
Zeb Wahle made it three majors in the first round with another 10-2 score in his 184 tilt.
Donnell Walker, who is No. 5 in the heavyweights, closed out action with a high-scoring 14-7 win.

In the quarterfinals of the championship draw, Singh downed No. 5 seeded Josh Jensen with a 6-1 decision to start the Saints in the afternoon session. Bauer was edged 3-0 in his 133 contest with all three points coming late in the third period. At 141, Rodriguez earned an early take down and a four-point near fall staked him to a 6-0 lead but he eventually recorded his second straight fall, this time at the 4:04 mark.

Krischke had a late escape to force overtime in his 149 match up and won it with a takedown and four-point near fall for an SV-1 8-2 win. Hegarty dropped his quarterfinal match at 157 by a 6-3 count to the No. 6 seed. Wahle used two takedowns in the middle of his match and cruised to a win in his 184 contest by a 10-6 score. Sherertz used an escape and a late takedown to post a 3-0 win in his quarterfinal tilt. In the final match of the championship bracket, Walker closed out the day with a 7-3 win.
In the consolation draw, Swaney and Harrington bounced back with a 12-4 major and 15-8 win, respectively. Hegarty advanced in the 157 consolation draw via a forfeit. Bauer ended his day with a loss. Later, Swaney shut out his foe with a 13-0 major but Harrington dropped his final bout by a 3-2 score.
