Stephanie Sherwood poured in a career-high 30 points but the Maryville women's basketball team had its five-game winning streak end at the hands of No. 17 Bellarmine 74-61 Thursday night in Moloney Arena. She is the first Saint to score at least 30 points in a game since Shelby Miller blazed the nets at Southern Indiana for 35 points Feb. 13, 2014.

The Knights grabbed an early 7-2 edge until the Saints scored six straight. Sherwood had a three-point play, and
Amanda Ponce drilled a 3-pointer for an 8-7 Maryville edge. Bellarmine tallied five straight to retake the advantage and eventually settled for a 23-17 lead after the first quarter. Sherwood scored a bucket on the first possession of the second quarter but the Knights surged with an 11-1 run.
Mary Barton scored to keep the Saints close but Bellarmine took a 41-25 lead at the break.

The Saints made a push in the third quarter when Sherwood sank four free throws and a 3-pointer to trim the deficit to 53-38. Barton made two free throws to bring the Saints to 55-40. Sherwood drained a triple from the top of the key as the Saints got the Bellarmine lead down at 57-43 one minute into the final quarter. However, Maryville never cut the margin to single digits as Sherwood hit two free throws in the final minute to reach the 30-point mark on the night.

In addition to her game-high output, Sherwood tied for team high honors with seven rebounds and came up with five steals.
Alex Wolf added eight points and seven boards. Sarah Galvin paced Bellarmine (19-4 overall, 11-3 GLVC) with 20 points and nine rebounds. The Knights had a strong shooting night and finished at at 58.8 percent clip.

The Saints had their longest GLVC winning streak fall as they dip to 11-10 overall, 7-7 in the league. Maryville is back in action Saturday as it hosts No. 20 Southern Indiana at 1 p.m.
