St. Louis – The Maryville University men's soccer team kicked off the 2017 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Northwood University Friday evening at Maryville Field.
What Happened – After both teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Saints took advantage of a foul to score the only goal of the night.
Joergen Pettersen drilled a free kick from the top of the 18-yard box into the back of the goal in the 62
nd minute to give the Saints a 1-0 advantage. The lone goal held up as
Christian Kjaersgaard collected two saves en route to the shutout victory. The shutout was the 13
th in Kjaersgaard's career, which moved him into second place on the all-time list.
Up Next – Maryville continues their four game home stand Sunday, Sept. 3, as the Saints play host to Christian Brothers University. The match is slated to start at 5 p.m. at Maryville Field.
