St. Louis – The Maryville University men's soccer team battled back from a one goal deficit in the second half to claim a 2-1 win over Christian Brothers University Sunday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – In a very tight affair, the two teams combined for only one shot on goal in the first half as the match was scoreless after the first 45 minutes. The Bucs cracked the scoreboard in the 49
th minute to grab a 1-0 lead, but the Saints offense found it stride. In the 60
th minute as
Helmut Florencia took a lead pass from
Pontus Gitselov and found the back of the net from nine yards out to tie the game at 1-1. The Saints took the lead in the 73
rd minute as
JD Sohn buried a deflected corner kick from
Joergen Pettersen into the net to give Maryville the 2-1 advantage. Maryville outshot the Bucs 6-2 in the game as the Saints improved to 2-0-0 on the season.
