Somers, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin – Parkside scored with a minute left in the first overtime as the Rangers defeated the 19th-ranked Maryville University men's soccer team 2-1 at Wood Road Soccer Field in Somers, Wis.
What Happened – UW - Parkside opened the scoring with a goal on a counterattack to grab a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute. Maryville answered six minutes later as
Joergen Pettersen scored his fourth goal of the season off a pass from
Rasmus Tauts to even the match at 1-1. The game then turned into a defensive struggle for the next 23 minutes as the teams headed to overtime. The Rangers outshot the Saints 6-0 in the extra session as it was the final shot that found the goal in the 99th minute to hand Maryville its first loss of the year.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints had not given up a goal in 281 minutes before the Rangers first tally. The last goal scored against Maryville came early in the second half of the match against Christian Brothers before today.
How they stand – Maryville falls to 4-1-0 and 2-1-0 in the Great Lake Valley Conference while the Rangers improve to 1-4-0 and 1-2-0 in the GLVC.
