St. Louis – The University of Illinois-Springfield scored a pair of goals in the first 17 minutes of play as the Prairie Stars defeated the Maryville University men's soccer team 2-0 Friday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – The Prairie Stars scored in the 14
th minute to grab an early 1-0 lead and added an insurance goal two minutes later to extend the lead to 2-0. Maryville had many scoring opportunities as the Saints outshot UIS 13-6 in the match but UIS goalkeeper Tommy Geile was outstanding in the net with nine saves.
Inside the Numbers – Today is the first time that the Saints have been shut out this season.
JD Sohn paced the Saints with three shots on the afternoon.
How they stand – Maryville falls to 5-2-0 and 3-2 in the Great Lake Valley Conference while the Prairie Stars improve to 4-3-0 and 4-1-0 in the GLVC.
