How it Happened
The Bearcats were up in set one but the Saints reeled off a 6-1 run to storm back into the set.
Allison Lakin sandwiched kills around one by
Taylor Koss to start the burst. After a McKendree point, the Saints scored three straight, highlighted by a block by
Taylor Schellert and
Natalia Pia, to close to 22-16. However, the Bearcats scored three straight. In set two, the Saints turned a 4-2 deficit around by tallying four straight points. Lakin ignited the run with back-to-back kills. After a kill by Schellert, she and Lakin combined on a block for a 6-4 Maryville lead. However, McKendree answered with a 5-0 burst. The Saints got as close as 10-9 after consecutive kills by
Cassidy Arndt but never tied the set. The third set featured six ties and two lead changes. The Saints were down 15-13 before embarking on a 5-0 burst. Schellert started the run with a kill, and after a Bearcat error,
Makayla Campbell served an ace to tie the score. McKendree committed an error, and a solo block by Schellert shoved the Saints ahead 18-15. Two kills by Arndt built a 21-17 lead but the Bearcats tied the set at 21-21. Maryville took a final lead at 23-22 on a kill by Koss but McKendree scored the final three points.
