St. Louis – Senior
Samantha Hausl (South Elgin, Ill./ St. Charles North) from the Maryville softball team has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 22, 2020.
Hausl is majoring in Elementary Education and had started in all 18 games for the Saints before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. She has also earned GLVC Academic All-Conference honors the past three years.
Here is what Hausl had to say about her major and what she plans to do after graduation:
"Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I was destined to be a teacher, stated Hausl." I had the opportunity to start coaching a 10U softball team a couple of years ago, and that experience solidified my love for teaching. While my senior season was taken away from me and many others, it is hard to walk away feeling angry. I have no regrets. The relationships I have gained and the lessons I have learned from being a part of the Maryville University Softball Program leave me with no other feeling other than pride. Because of my experience at Maryville, I know that I am ready to go off into the real world and inspire the young minds of many other future GLVC athletes. I will remind my students every day to be passionate about something, to work hard, and to know that they can do whatever they set their minds to. I am more than ready for the next step in my journey, and it is humbling knowing that I was able to be a part of the competitiveness that the amazing athletes in the GLVC created. No words can describe what it truly means to be a part of the GLVC, and specifically the Maryville University Softball Program. I will forever be grateful for this experience. Go Saints!"
