Maryville University seniors
Alyssa Callans (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and
Samantha Hausl (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) were voted to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-American Softball Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. They become the 22
nd and 23
rd Maryville student-athletes to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors.
The award is designed to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for the work that they put in on the field and in the classroom. Callans has a 3.92 cumulative GPA and is a Physical Therapy major. Hausl is carrying a 3.93 GPA while majoring in Elementary Education.
Callans finished the 2020 season with a 7-2 record in the circle to pace the Saints pitching staff. She wrapped up the year with a 1.80 earned run average while striking out 69 batters. Callans is also atop the career list in strikeouts with 382. At the plate, Callans was second on the team with a .345 batting average while driving in 12 runs. She was named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District team and has earned Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors the past three years.
Hausl played in 18 games this spring, led the team in home runs with five and had a .345 batting average. She tied for the team lead in hits with 19 while driving in a team-high 16 runs. In her career at Maryville, Hausl has a .317 batting average with 19 doubles and 15 home runs. She has been named to the Academic All-GLVC list the past three years.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have reached sophomore in athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
