The weekend of Nov. 19-21 had plenty of action for Maryville hockey fans to enjoy. All three teams in the program played this past weekend - the M1 Hockey recap can be found
here.
The M2 Saints had a hometown series with Highway 40 foe St. Louis University this past weekend. The Friday contest was at the Webster Ice Rink, while Saturday's contest took place at the Maryville University Hockey Center. The Saints were never able to find their game Friday, losing by a score of 4-2.
Scout Stalcup recorded the loss in net, making 17 saves off of 21 shots faced. Saturday's game was much more of a back and forth affair. Entering the third period, the Saints were up 5-3 riding an extraordinary individual effort from junior assistant captain
Spencer Barlow, who scored three goals in the first 38 minutes of the game. But the Billikens blistered back with three unanswered goals in the final period. Fortunately,
Alex Koeller scored with 22 seconds left tying the game at 6-6 with the Saints goalie pulled to send the game to overtime. Five minutes of 4v4 overtime could not determine a victor. A shootout was necessary with SLU prevailing by a score of 3-1 in the shootout. The 7-6 shootout loss gives the Saints a 12-4 record entering Thanksgiving break.
The Maryville M2 Team has four games to end the semester after the Thanksgiving break. In two important weekends of MACHA conference play, the Saints will play Bradley Friday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 4, at home while traveling to Normal, Ill., Dec. 11-12, to battle the Redbirds of Illinois State.
