ALTON, Ill. – The Maryville University M2 ice hockey team defeated Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in a pair of contests over the weekend. The Saints won game one at home 2-1 and followed up with a 4-3 road win on Sunday.

The victories gave the ACHA M2 program their first two of the season, moving them in the right direction after starting the campaign 0-3.

In Saturday evening's game at the Maryville University Ice Hockey Center,
Logan Mueller opened the scoring 13 minutes into the game for his second of the year.
Matt Birkemeier added to the lead in the second period with his first goal assisted by
Kyle Bracko and
Tim Rye.

SIUE ruined
Lucas Bain's shutout bid with a goal three minutes into the third period, but the London, Ontario, native shut the Cougars down for the remainder of the game to earn a 2-1 win. Bain stopped 16 of 17 shot attempts to collect his first win of 2022.

Maryville continued their momentum into Sunday's game. A pair of goals from
Chase Vancoughnett-Lafleur and Bain's 23 saves gave the Saints a 4-3 road victory in Alton, Ill.

The M2 hockey team looks to make it three straight over the Cougars in their next outing on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Alton, Ill.
