Saints Soccer Teams Place 12 on SLIAC All-Decade Team for 1990-99

Maryville University had 12 representatives on the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's recently announced soccer All-Decade Teams from 1990-1999. The Saints had seven selections to the men's team, while the Maryville women saw five student-athletes recognized. Maryville was a member of the Division III conference from 1989 to 2009 before moving into NCAA Division II and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
 
Making the All-Decade on the men's side were coach John Renaud, Brian Canavan, Pacial Damkam, Dwayne Kirn, Jeff Muschick, Mike Neiman and Chad Rackers. Renaud was voted the SLIAC Coach of the Year four times and led the Saints to league titles in 1993 and 1994 as well as winning four conference tournaments. Canavan was a three-time All-SLIAC selection, and twice was a first-team honoree. Damkam is Maryville's all-time leader in goals (61) and points (136) and was a three-time All-Conference honoree. Kirn was voted All-Conference four straight times, including earning first-team honors on three occasions. Muschick was the 1994 SLIAC Player of the Year after scoring a league-record 61 points, including 25 goals. Neiman was chosen to the All-Conference squad three times and twice earned first-team honors. Rackers was a first-team All-SLIAC choice in 1992 and earned three All-Conference selections.
 
The Saints women's team was represented by Amy Bornfleth, Jayna Haymon, Kelly McInroy, Michele Meert and Jill Thielemier. Bornfleth, Maryville's all-time leader with 102 goals and 275 points, was a four-time All-Conference first team selection and twice the SLIAC Player of the Year. Haymon earned first-team All-Conference honors from 1991 through 1993. McInroy accounted for 24 goals and 15 assists and also earned first-team All-SLIAC honors three times, as did Meert from 1993 through 1995. Thielemier was the 1999 SLIAC Player of the Year and another four-time first-team All-Conference selection who ranks second all-time with 40 goals.
