Elsah, Ill. - The Maryville swimming programs began the 2022 calendar year by defeating Principia in the King/Queen of the Stroke Duals in Elsah, Ill. The Saints men's team won 483-192, while the Maryville women claimed a 550-305 victory Saturday.

Taylor Norwood won the 50 fly in 29.65, while
Caleb Jahnke took the men's race in 26.63.
Karen Bistrain-Diaz took the 50 backstroke with a time of 33.46, and
Jack Riffel won for the Saints at 28.35. In the 50 breaststroke,
Hannah Schrag touched the wall in 41.41, while
Gino Dodd won by clocking a 33.89.
Aubrey Moreland claimed the 50 freestyle in 30.44, and
Ryan Jurgensen took the event in 25.74.

In the 200 free, Jordan cruised to the win in 2:34.54. Norwood won her second event by taking the 100 butterfly in 1:05.99, and Jahnke claimed the event for the men at 58.28. The 100 back saw Bistrain-Diaz touch first with a time of 1:12.71, while Riffel won in 59.96. Schrag took her second event in the 100 breaststroke at 1:27.90, while
Jake Morelli was first for the men at 1:15.62. Moreland was first in the 100 free at 1:06.96, and Jurgensen cruised to a 58.98 victory.

The 400 free saw Mercer take the event in 5:21.10. Norwood was triumphant in her third race by winning the 200 fly at 2:29.39, while
Joseph Park won the event in 2:08.13. Bistrain-Diaz claimed the 200 back in 2:34.23, and RIffel was victorious at 2:11.73. Schrag took the 200 breaststroke by clocking a 3:05.38, and
Jake Morelli won with a time of 2:45.40.

In the 200 free sprint group, Moreland clocked a 2:25.80, while Jurgensen recorded a 2:10.68. In the final event, Mercer won the 800 free with a time of 10:51.77.

The Saints have another dual meet Jan. 22, when they travel to Romeoville, Ill., to take on Lewis University.
