ST. LOUIS – Maryville men's soccer had three selected to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) Men's Soccer All-Midwest Region Teams on Tuesday.
Cedric Sengl was chosen for the first team while
Albert Escuin and
Andrew Schulz found a spot on the second team.
Sengl earns his first career D2CCA All-Region First Team selection after posting career-highs in points (17) and assists (7). The captain of the Saints played a key role in the midfield all season, tying for the top mark in the GLVC in assists during the regular season. Additionally, the senior from Wetstetten, Bavaria, Germany, tallied four points in three conference tournament games to lead the Saints to the third Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship in five years.
Goalkeeper
Albert Escuin was chosen to the second team after his first season at Maryville. The MBA student from Torrent, Valencia, Spain, led the GLVC in goals against average during the regular season at 0.67, while currently holding a 10-2-5 record including nine shutouts. Escuin has helped lead the Saints deep into the postseason, tallying three shutouts over his last three games in the GLVC Semifinals, the GLVC Championship, and in the NCAA Second Round.
Andrew Schulz was the other Saint chosen to the All-Midwest Region Second Team as the anchor of the defense. Schulz earns the award for the first time in his career after logging a team-high 1,670 minutes while allowing the third-fewest goals against per game in the GLVC during the regular season (0.81). Maryville has additionally tallied 11 shutouts as a team in 2022, including three in their last three postseason games.
Next up for the Saints is an NCAA Tournament Third Round matchup with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Maryville Soccer Field.
