LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Maryville swimming & diving earned a split in a Saturday meeting with Sterling College and the University of Saint Mary. Both programs took down Sterling and lost to Saint Mary in Kansas.

The men earned their first win of the season against Sterling with a 153-41 final score but lost to the Spires 67-183. The women move their record to 2-3 with a 160-78 win and a 103.5-148.5 loss.

Devon Tallent had a big day for the men, winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.83 and the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:01.87 finish.

Ella Fries also won a pair of events for the women, taking the gold in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.20) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.44). She additionally finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.61) and with the 200-yard medley relay team (1:53.21).

Karen Bistrain was the final event winner for the Saints, posting a 2:16.46 in the 200-yard backstroke.

Next up for the Saints is a trip to Elsah, Ill., for the Principia Invitational. The event is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Dec. 10, and run through Saturday, Dec. 3.
