St. Charles, Mo. - The Maryville wrestling team posted a 1-2 mark at the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in St. Charles, Mo. The Saints were the No. 3 seed in the tournament and downed No. 6 seed Ouachita Baptist 28-15. In the quarterfinals, Maryville dropped a 28-14 matchup against seventh-ranked Indianapolis by the score of 28-14. The Saints rallied late but closed the day with a narrow 24-18 loss against host and the 17th-ranked team in the nation Lindenwood.

Anthony Pisciotta started the day with a 12-0 major at 125, and
Taylor Jokerst won at 141 via tech fall 17-0.
Tanner Sparks takes an 8-3 decision at 165, and
Joey Williams dominated with a fall in 1:39 at 184.
Chase Stegall garners 6-2 decision in 197 weight class, and
Ryan Herman closes out the day and grabs a 2-1 heavyweight decision.

No. 7 Indianapolis 28, Maryville 14
Anthony Pisciotta record a tech fall 16-0 major at 125 to give the Saints the early lead. However, UIndy takes the next four weight classes until
Tanner Sparks garners a decision 5-2 at 165.Â
Chase Stegall won 4-0 at 197, and Herman triumphed in a 6-0 shutout at 285 to improve to 2-0 on the day.

No. 17 Lindenwood 24, Maryville 18
The Lions jumped to the early lead by winning the first four matches. Luke Ebeers got the Saints on the board with an 8-3 win at 157.
Bret Heil rolled to a 21-2 tech fall at 174 to start a late rally.
Joey Williams followed with a 14-4 major at 184, and James Anding took his bout at 197 with a 3-1 decision. Herman capped a perfect 3-0 day with a 3-0 decision at heavyweight but the Saints were unable to dig out of the early hole.

The Saints will be right back in Hyland Arena as Lindenwood is the host for the NCAA Super Region Saturday, Feb. 26.
