Box Score St. Louis – The Maryville men's volleyball team closed out its inaugural season of play with a five-set victory over Lincoln (Ill.) College. The Saints prevailed 27-25, 25-18, 25-27, 20-25, 15-6.

Set one was close throughout and Maryville had two set points but Lincoln saved each one. At 25-25, the Saints scored two straight to win it 27-25. The Saints broke from a 16-16 tie in set two with three straight points to edge ahead. After a Lincoln service error,
Mason Mortimer,
Jacob Fischer and
Josh Zhuchenko had a triple block, and a Lynx hitting error provided the edge the Saints needed. A late 4-0 sealed the set.

The Saints had two chances to win the match in the third set but Lincoln extended the match with a 27-25 win. Lincoln had its best hitting percentage in the contest and took the fourth to push the match to the distance.

In the fifth, the Saints were down 2-1 but scored four straight to jump ahead. After a Lincoln service miscue, Mortimer and Fischer had a block, and
Luke Van Handel served an ace. Mortimer notched a solo rejection, and a kill by Mortimer built a 6-2 advantage. The Lynx got as close as 7-5 but Maryville went on a 7-0 run to and eventually closed out the match 15-6. The Saints forced Lincoln to just a -.455 hitting percentage in the final set.
