Maryville Swimming Opens the Season at William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. – Maryville University swimming took on William Jewell College and Missouri S&T in the first tri-meet of the season on Friday afternoon. The men lost both of their matches while the women fell to the Cardinals in their lone matchup.
 
Olivia Kindle led the way for Maryville on the women's side, logging a fourth-place finish in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:43.43. Isabelle Calabio also had a good individual outing in her first collegiate meet, taking fifth in the 100m freestyle (1:05.85) and sixth in the 50m freestyle (30.58). Freshman Aspyn Howard finished just behind her in the 100m freestyle in sixth with a 1:07.58.
 
For the men, Devon Tallent logged two of the best finishes of the afternoon. The senior from Ferguson, Mo., took fifth in the 200m backstroke (2:16.78) and ninth in the 200m individual medley (2:20.98).
 
Bill Nicholson's squad hits the pool again on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Quincy, Ill., to take on Quincy University and Rockhurst University. Event time is set for 2 p.m.
