ROLLA, Mo. –
Nika Vemdal recorded a hat trick on Sunday to lead Maryville University past Missouri S&T with a 4-0 final score. The junior from Gothenburg, Sweden, registered the final three goals of the game for a Saints team that will end the weekend tied for the top spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings.
Run of Play:
- Ulrika Bredin missed high on a shot at 4:51 to start the game, followed by attempts from Tori Calvert, Sara Lawler, and a shot that hit the right woodwork from Lexi Gentry at 12:40.
- At 16:06, Calvert directed a corner kick at Gentry who headed it past the goalkeeper to open up an early 1-0 lead over the Miners.
- The Saints continued to pepper the Missouri S&T defense and added another goal at 30:47 when Nika Vemdal collected a loose corner kick in the box and buried a shot to double the lead.
- Natalia Kaminski had a chance to cut the lead in half for the Miners with a penalty kick at 30:58, but she missed on the opportunity.
- Vemdal scored her second of the game in the 39th minute when she carried the ball into the box, had a shot blocked by a defender, collected the rebound, and capitalized on a second chance.
- After shots on goal from Elsa Nilson-Hurtig and Lawler, Vemdal finished off her hat trick in the 60th minute with another shot on a loose ball from a corner kick.
- The Maryville defense took it from there, allowing three-shot attempts over the course of the entire game while allowing no shots on goal.
