Saints Knocked Out of GLVC Tournament by Flyers in Penalty Kicks

EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Maryville women's soccer was eliminated from the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in penalty kicks by Lewis University on Friday afternoon. The Saints were knocked out in the semifinals after a scoreless tie through overtime was resolved by three consecutive Flyer goals in the penalty shootout. 
 
Run of Play:
  • Lexi Gentry forced Lewis goalkeeper Bekah Nielsen to make an early save in the sixth minute on a low shot attempt. 
  • Maryville tallied four shot attempts in the first half and put three on goal. Lewis put their only shot attempt on net. 
  • Allison Estanich and Brooke Slater took the team's only shots in the second half during a final 10-minute offensive push before overtime. 
  • After an uneventful first overtime period, Saints goalkeeper Gigi Yurevich made a diving save to her right to keep Lewis from scoring early in the second overtime in the 102nd minute of the match. 
  • Halle Ezell and Elsa Nilson-Hurtig both put shots on goal but they were scooped up by Nielsen. 
  • In penalty kicks, the Flyers capitalized on all three of their opportunities to win the shootout 3-0.
Notes: 
  • Goalkeeper Gigi Yurevich earned the shutout to tie Kami Eison and Katie Nash for the single-season program record with 11 shutouts. 
What's Next? 
Maryville was ranked seventh in the most recent NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings and will await their fate in the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 13. The women's selection show is at 5:30 p.m.
