MARQUETTE, Mich. – Maryville women's soccer took down Northern Michigan 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Saints got goals from
Ashlyne Hunt and
Elsa Nilson-Hurtig that were held up by an eight-save performance from
Gigi Yurevich.Â

Run of Play:
- Gigi Yurevich made a trio of saves in the first 25 minutes to keep the game scoreless.Â
- Elsa Nilson-Hurtig put the first shot on goal for the Saints in the 23rd minute and had her low attempt denied by Wildcats goalkeeper Jillian Thompson.Â
- The first half ended in a scoreless draw with Yurevich stopping five shots on goal.Â
- After three more shots were turned aside by the Maryville sophomore keeper, Ashlyne Hunt found the back of the net late in the second half at 86:21.
- Less than two minutes later, Nilson-Hurtig doubled the lead on assists from freshmen Emily Doane and Lucy McCabe.
- Northern Michigan continued pressing, earning a corner kick in the final minute, and ruined the shutout bid with a goal from Gwen Kiilunen at 89:27.Â
- The Saints defense killed off the remaining 30 seconds from the clock to earn a 2-1 win.Â

- Maryville has knocked out Northern Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons. They additionally handed them their first home loss since Sept. 17, 2021 (27 games).
- Emily Doane and Lucy McCabe both picked up the first points of their careers with assists on Elsa Nilson-Hurtig's game-winner in the 88th minute.Â
- Gigi Yurevich is now tied for third in program history with 14 wins in a single season.
