NASHVILLE – Maryville University had three student-athletes selected to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association Women's Soccer All-Midwest Region Teams announced on Tuesday.
Halle Ezell and
Lexi Gentry were selected to the All-Midwest Region First Team while
Tori Calvert landed on the second team.
Communication professionals from across the NCAA Division II Midwest Region nominated candidates for each of the four position categories and then specifically nominated student-athletes for consideration for player of the year. Once the nomination process concluded, school and conference communication professionals from across the region voted for the two D2 CCA Midwest Region teams. The Midwest region is made up of member schools from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Ezell earned the award for the first time after a career year on the field. The senior from St. Louis, Mo., scored five goals for the Saints including a game-winner against the University of Illinois Springfield in the conference schedule opener on Sept. 15. She also helped the Maryville defense to 11 shutouts, the best goal differential in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, and a postseason run into the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The second Saint on the first team is San Diego, Calif., native
Lexi Gentry. The senior posted a career-high 21 points with six goals and nine assists. Her mark for assists led the GLVC while she finished third in the league in points. She additionally tallied three game-winning goals including one in the 86
th minute on Sept. 7, to give Maryville a 1-0 win over then-18th-ranked Cedarville University.
Tori Calvert was also selected for the first time in her career on the CCA All-Midwest Region Second Team with a seven-point season. Calvert netted an important goal on Oct. 6, in a 1-1 tie with McKendree. She also posted five assists which ranked seventh in the GLVC this season and second on the team.
Maryville ended the 2023 campaign at 14-3-4 overall after their second consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament. They also posted a 10-1-2 record to earn the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Regular Season title in program history.
