Maryville Women’s Bowling Strikes Seventh Place in Mid-Winter Invitational

JONESBORO, ARK. – The eighth-ranked Maryville women's bowling squad finished seventh in the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State over the weekend.
 
On Friday, Maryville tallied wins in four out of five matches. In five-straight baker games, they gathered at least 1,000 total pins in each of their wins against No. 6 Arkansas State (1,075-1,053), Louisiana Tech (1,101-985), No. 4 Youngstown State (1,103-1,001), and Grambling State (1,035-696). Their only loss was to Sam Houston (960-1,096). At the end of day one, the Saints stood in fifth place out of 17 total teams.
 
Maryville repeated their 4-1 start on day two of traditional match play, recording an 8-2 record going into tournament play. The Saints gathered four wins against No. 2 Nebraska (1,094-1,014), Jackson State (976-814), Alabama State (1,037-899), and Lincoln Memorial (997-956). Their only loss on day two was to first-ranked McKendree (1,001-1,169). Brianna Schmidt led the Saints with an average of 215.40 pins and a total pinfall of 1,077 pins. Going into tournament play, Maryville held the sixth-seed in the tournament.
 
On day three, the Saints started out bracket play against Nebraska in a tournament five versus six seed battle. In a six-game stretch, the Saints fell to Nebraska 4-2 before moving on to face Stephen F. Austin. SFA took the series 4-1, but they rebounded against Youngstown State with a 4-2 series win to take seventh place.
 
Next in line for the Saints is the ISC/ITC Sectional Tournament starting on Friday, March 10.
