ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame will hand out the Lori Chalupny Award on Friday evening (March 31), given to the outstanding female St. Louis Soccer Players of the Year from the professional or collegiate ranks. The award was established in 2004 but has recently been renamed to the Chalupny Award beginning with Friday's 2023 award.
Â
Current Maryville University Head Women's Soccer Coach and St. Louis native Lori Chalupny Lawson was a member of the 2008 U.S.A. Summer Olympics Team that claimed the gold medal and scored a goal in a 4-2 victory over Japan in the semifinals. She also won the 2015 World Cup in Canada with the United States Women's National Team, and played as a midfielder with the Chicago Red Stars of the NWSL.
Â
Chalupny has been the Maryville women's soccer since 2018 and has served as an assistant coach since the 2013 campaign. This past season, the Saints made school history by becoming the first team to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship and earn the program's first NCAA Tournament bid. In the first round, Maryville recorded a 1-0 victory over Northern Michigan University Nov. 11.
Â
The 2023 Chalupny Award will be awarded to Saint Louis University's Lyndsey Heckel. The junior defender from St. Louis helped the Billikens to a 20-2 overall record, their fifth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship, and she was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-American First Team.
