Heron Chosen for D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team

ST. LOUIS – Emersen Heron was selected to the D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team on Tuesday as a pitcher/utility player. The sophomore from Edmond, Okla., was one of five Great Lakes Valley Conference student-athletes selected to the first team.
 
Heron helped the Saints both in the circle and at the plate all season. She finished tied for fourth in the GLVC with 15 wins, fifth with 14 complete games, and tied for fourth with a pair of saves. Heron additionally posted a team-low 2.80 ERA, a team-high 147.1 innings pitched, and four shutouts. She was also one of Maryville's best hitters, taking second on the team with two home runs, tied for first with 11 doubles, and fourth with 22 RBI.
 
The two-way star earns the first D2CCA All-Midwest Region selection of her career and is the first Saint to be chosen since Alyssa Callans who was named to the third team in 2019. She adds the award to a 2023 list that includes a selection to the All-GLVC Third Team and the NFCA Division II All-Midwest Region Second Team.
 
Maryville University softball finished with a 30-21 overall record and posted their longest Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament run in program history after making it to the semifinals.
