ST. LOUIS – Maryville women's soccer dropped the season opener 2-0 at sixth-ranked Ferris State University on Thursday afternoon. The Saints fell to 0-1 to begin the 2023 campaign after surrendering a pair of second-half goals in the 65
th and 78

Run of Play:
- Lexi Gentry got the first shot on goal of the game 39 seconds into the match.
- Gigi Yurevich made three first-half saves including a diving effort in the 11th minute.
- The best Maryville scoring chance of the first half came on Ulrika Bredin's header in the box that went just wide right.
- Maryville started the second half with shots from Gina Catanzaro and Halle Ezell in the 48th minute.
- Ferris State rattled off six shots from the 51st minute to the 55th minute.
- Haley Buckman scored the first goal of the game in the 65th minute off an assist from Payton Price.
- Freshman Emily Doane took a shot on goal and collided with the goalie with 20:51 remaining in the second half.
- The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the 76th minute when Isabella Baron moved the ball into the box and put a shot into the upper right corner.
- Gentry tried to cut into the lead with her second shot on goal in the 80th minute with a header that was saved by Bulldogs keeper Darya Mosallaei.

- The Saints are now 2-2-1 in their last five season-openers.
- In her first start, sophomore goalkeeper Gigi Yurevich made the first save of her career at 3:25. She also made five saves in the match, one shy of the team's season-high from 2022.
- The Bulldogs evened up the all-time series at one win each after the Saints won 2-1 in the first meeting on Aug. 25, 2022.
