ST. LOUIS –
Halle Ezell's first career goal in the 89
th minute gave Maryville women's soccer a 2-1 win over the University of Illinois Springfield on Friday evening. After
Ulrika Bredin scored her first career goal to tie the game in the 11
th minute, the game remained deadlocked until Ezell powered in a cross attempt from
Elsa Nilson-Hurtig late in the second half.
Run of Play:
- The Prairie Stars struck early when Abby Dellamorte headed in her first goal of the season off a corner kick taken by Brooke Biffar 10 minutes in.
- Maryville responded immediately after the next kickoff when Allison Estanich sent a ball to the back-left corner which was headed past the goalkeeper by Ulrika Bredin to tie the game.
- At 18:01, the Saints launched a long pass to Ashyne Hunt behind the defense but she sent the ball off the right post.
- On the counterattack from Hunt's shot attempt, Abby Dellarmorte picked up another deep pass and put a shot on looking for her second goal of the game but was turned away by a strong defensive play from Maddie Dickerman and a Gigi Yurevich save.
- Lexi Gentry had one of the best scoring chances of the game at 22:07, forcing a turnover in the UIS defensive end for a one-on-one with the keeper. Allison Mirimanian met her midway through the box, however, and declined the attempt.
- The second half got off to a slow start, but Molly Krispin started the action with a shot that missed just high of the crossbar at 56:56.
- Hunting for a goal to put the Saints ahead, Gentry sent shots on goal in the 58th and 61st minutes but was turned aside by Mirimanian.
- With under three minutes left in the game, Elsa Nilson-Hurtig sent a cross into the box that was pushed into the net by an attacking Halle Ezell to give Maryville a 2-1 lead.
- Yurevich sealed the win with her third save of the evening in the 89th minute.
