ST. LOUIS – Goals from
Nika Vemdal and
Lexi Gentry gave Maryville a 2-0 win over Ohio Dominican University on Saturday afternoon. The Saints improve to 2-1-1 in non-conference play and win their second match of the weekend after taking down No. 18 Cedarville University on Thursday.
Run of Play:
- Maryville dominated possession in the first half, holding the ball in the offensive zone 71 percent of the time.
- Gina Catanzaro got the Saints going in the fourth minute with a high shot that was turned away by Ohio Dominican keeper Jadelyn McNerney.
- In the 26th minute, Lotte Brands tried a shot from just outside the box that was blocked by a Panther defender.
- A few minutes later, Tori Calvert found a lot of space in front of the keeper and ripped a shot to the top left of the goal but was denied by a sprawling McNerney.
- Nika Vemdal headed one near the top part of the net but missed a foot high at 29:31.
- After trying another shot at 33:13, Vemdal scored the game's first goal to the lower left corner after taking a pass from Elsa Nilson-Hurtig.
- In total, Maryville outshot ODU 6-0 in the first half with three more corner kicks.
- The Saints continued to put pressure on in the second half, taking four shots before scoring the second goal on a penalty kick from Lexi Gentry.
- The home defense continued to stifle the Panther attack, allowing just one shot attempt the entire match.

- Nika Vemdal's first goal of the season gave her three in her career and her first since a two-goal performance on Sept. 30, 2022, against William Jewell College. It was also the first game-winning goal of her career.
- This is the fourth time in Lexi Gentry's career that she has scored in two consecutive games after logging the game-winner on Thursday.
- Maryville now leads the all-time series against Ohio Dominican 1-0.
- The Saints finish 2-1-1 in non-conference play including three games against opponents ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll.
