Six Saints Garner D2CCA All-Midwest Region Nods

CLEVELAND – Maryville women's soccer can claim six members of the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association Women's Soccer All-Midwest Region Teams, with four Saints finding their way on the first team. Agnes Vilen, Lexi Gentry, Lotte Brands and Ulrika Bredin represent the Maryville presence on the first-team, while the offensive duo of Elsa Nilson-Hurtig and Ashlyne Hunt landed on the second team.

The six overall selections the most the Saints have had in program history, surpassing the program record set just a year ago of three All-Region selections.

Communication professionals from across the NCAA Division II Midwest Region nominated candidates for each of the four position categories and then specifically nominated student-athletes for consideration for player of the year. Once the nomination process concluded, school and conference communication professionals from across the region voted for the two D2 CCA Midwest Region teams. The Midwest region is made up of member schools from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Three of the four first teamers represent one of the best defenses in all of Division II, as the trio of Brands, Bredin and Vilen helped the Saints only allow nine goals all season, a .45 goals-against average while allowing just 6.7 shots per contest. Brands and Bredin together saw a combined 3000 minutes on the pitch, with each adding four goals alongside their defensive prowess. Vilen, already named GLVC Goalkeeper of the Year, registered 20 starts between the posts, tallying a program record 12 shutouts on 48 saves.

Gentry was the engine of the Saints in the midfield, registering 1494 minutes played, alongside five goals and nine assists, including two massive goals in the NCAA tournament in a come-from-behind victory over McKendree.

The dynamic duo of Nilson-Hurtig and Hunt became one of the strongest offensive pairings in all of division II this season, as they combined for 55 points overall, with both of them ending the year with 11 goals. Of the Saints' 16 wins this season, Nilson-Hurtig or Hunt tallied the game-winner in nine of them.

Maryville ended their 2024 season 16-1-3 overall, earning their third-straight NCAA tournament appearance and hosting their first ever tournament contest. Their 13-0-1 GLVC record was best among the league, earning them their second-consecutive regular season title.
