ST. LOUIS – Behind a career-high 21 points from
Gracie Stugart, the Maryville women's basketball team won its second straight league contest with a 76-73 decision over Indianapolis.
Claire Rake bombed in six 3-pointers and finished with 19 points, while
Adylan Ayer notched 13 points. Maryville drained 12 3-pointers on the day to spur the attack.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Indianapolis took its largest lead of the day as 42-35 midway through the third quarter. The Saints answered with eight straight points. Ayer started the run with a layup, and Rake rained down consecutive 3-pointers to push the Saints ahead 43-42. UIndy edged back on top 52-49 but the Saints answered with a 7-0 run. Stugart sank two free throws, and
Caden Krohn converted a layup to give the Saints the lead. Rake poured in another triple for a 56-52 lead.
Early in the fourth,
Lindsey Schadewalt knocked down a trey, and Ayer found the range from deep for a 64-55 lead, Maryville's biggest in the contest with 6:29 to play. The Greyhounds chipped away and closed the gap with an 8-1 run. The Maryville margin was 72-68 until UIndy hit a three. Stugart calmly sank two free throws with 16.9 left before UIndy scored. Up 74-74, the Saints inbounded the ball in the backcourt but committed a turnover. However, Maryville's defense forced a miss, and Krohn grabbed the rebound and sealed the victory by converting two free throws with 0.5 seconds remaining.
