NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville University dropped a series to Trevecca Nazarene University over the weekend after a 9-4 loss on Saturday afternoon. The Saints move to 2-3 through the first two series of 2024. Â

Maryville was held scoreless in the first inning, but a
Michael Long double to left field got the Saints going in the top of the second. Now with two outs, an error put runners on first and third for
Andy Bunton who doubled to drive in a run.
Jack Zebig singled in the next at-bat which plated two more to give the Saints a 3-0 lead.

A leadoff walk in the bottom of the third and two singles loaded the bases for the Trojans with no outs. Starting pitcher
Ben Gregory worked a pair of strikeouts but walked the next batter and surrendered a three-run double to make it 4-3.

Gregory settled in from there, logging five innings of work with four earned, three hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

Trevecca continued adding insurance in the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits and two errors. Two more runs came in the eighth on a pair of hits including a Cole McCallum RBI single to left field.

Freshman
Dominic Sharp tallied the first hit of his collegiate career leading off the top of the ninth and came around to score on a Zebig single through the right side. The Trojans, however, closed out a 9-4 victory and a series win over the Saints with two flyouts and a strikeout.
