ST. LOUIS –
Matt Schuler sent two home runs out of Weber Field on Sunday afternoon to lead Maryville University to an 11-7 game three win over Northwood University. The Saints earned a series sweep over the Timberwolves, outscoring them 30-20 over three games.
Northwood Recap
Matt Schuler backed a pair of scoreless innings from starting pitcher
Ben Prywitch with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. A leadoff home run in the top of the third from Logan Voth, however, got Northwood on the board at 2-1.
Michael Gould started the bottom of the third with a single to center, stole second, and came around to score on a
Michael Long single. Two batters later,
Nick Daugherty drove in his first run of the season with a single and later scored on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from
Jack Zebig.
Caden Duryea hit another solo home run in the fourth to make it 5-2 before Prywitch wrapped up his day with a scoreless fifth inning. In total, the redshirt senior from Chesterfield, Mo., went five innings of work with two earned, three walks, and three strikeouts.
In the bottom of the fifth, Schuler clubbed his second home run to lead off the frame. Later in the inning, singles from
Andy Bunton and Zebig put runners on for
Colin Bergmann who plated a run with a fielder's choice to make it 7-2.
Northwood continued to scratch away at the Maryville lead, plating five runs over the next four innings, but insurance runs from Bunton, Bergmann, and Gould helped secure an eventual 11-7 Saints win and a sweep of the Timberwolves.
