Maryville Earns Series Split in 8-6 Game Four Win Against Rockhurst

ST. LOUIS – Maryville baseball earned a series split against Rockhurst University with an 8-6 win on Sunday. The Saints scored a pair of runs in the first, second, fourth, and seventh innings to improve to 27-10 overall and 20-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

Rockhurst Recap
Maryville started hot with four runs in the first two innings. Elias Stevens homered to center with Michael Gould on first to tally the first two runs. Andy Bunton brought in Michael Long in the second with an RBI single, followed by a balk by Hawks pitcher Dakota Hanna that plated in Colin Bergmann.

The Saints did not stop there and drove in two more in the fourth after loading up the bases. Rockhurst showed resilience and put together an impressive fifth inning, scoring three and narrowing the deficit to 6-3.

Maryville starting pitcher Noah Arras did not come out of the game until the seventh tallying nine strikeouts while giving up six hits. Both teams scored two runs in the seventh which included a two-RBI hit from Hawks centerfielder Adonis Forte and a two-run blast to right field by Matt Schuler in the bottom half.

After a scoreless eighth inning that left the score at 8-5, Saints pitcher Geo Camfield took the mound in an attempt to grab his first save of the year. After a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth, Camfield kept his composure and got the last batter out via the fielders' choice on a diving stop from Jack Zebig at shortstop. The web gem sealed an 8-6 win, helping Maryville to a 2-2 series split with Rockhurst.
