INDIANAPOLIS – Maryville baseball fell 7-4 at the University of Indianapolis in the series opener on Friday afternoon. The Greyhounds took the first of a four-game set with the 25
th-ranked Saints to move into a tie atop the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings.

Jacob Kroeger got the start on the mound in game one and recorded eight strikeouts through his first four scoreless innings of work. He ran into trouble in the fifth, however, allowing three runs on three hits including an RBI double from Cole Hampton.

After being shutout through seven innings by UIndy starter Diego Cardenas, the Saints put a runner on for
Elias Stevens who slugged his GLVC-leading 19
th home run of the year.
Matt Schuler went back-to-back with him to tie the game at three, and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch later in the inning brought in the go-ahead run.

The Greyhounds snatched the lead back quickly in the eighth after loading the bases for a Bryce Goodwine single up the middle that plated two runs. Two batters later, Drew Donaldson drove in two more to extend the lead to 7-4.

In the top of the ninth, UIndy worked around a leadoff single to close out a 7-4 final score. Kroeger picked up the no-decision in the loss, going five innings with 10 strikeouts, three earned runs, and 114 pitches.
