ST. LOUIS –
Claire Rake drained four 3-pointers en route to a team-high 16 points as the Maryville women's basketball team rolled past William Jewell 81-52.
Faith Hawthorne scored 15 points, while
Lindsey Schadewalt and
Olivia Hahn had 10 points apiece.
Alicia Burgos hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds, while
Gracie Stugart dished out 11 assists to go along with eight points, six rebounds and six steals. The Maryville defense only gave up seven baskets in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Up 33-30 at intermission, the Saints roared out of the gates in the third. Hawthorne converted a layup and drained a 3-pointer from the wing to start the burst. After a score by Jewell, Rake rained down a trey. Burgos made one free throw, and Stugart drove by the defense for a bucket. Hahn connected from deep as the Saints built a 51-38 advantage. The Saints broke down the Jewell defense for three straight layups and extended the cushion to 47-40.
Maryville quickly pushed its advantage to more than 20 points. Rake sank two jumpers and two free throws by Stugart made it 68-47 with six minutes remaining. The Saints defense limited the Cardinals to just 17.6 percent shooting in the fourth quarter.
