ST. LOUIS – The Maryville women's basketball team put on a late rally against Missouri-St. Louis but the Tritons held on for a 57-52 win in Moloney Arena.
Lindsey Schadewalt led the Saints with 18 points, while
Faith Hawthorne finished with 12 and
Gracie Stugart added nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints scored seven of the final 10 points of the opening period to take a 12-11 lead. UMSL inched ahead before Maryville used a 7-2 run to retake the front. Hawthorne bookended the spree with layups around a deep 3-pointer by
Claire Rake for a 22-20 edge. The Tritons responded with 10 straight points before Stugart drained a triple. The visitors took a 31-26 lead at halftime.

Maryville tied the score early in the third on a driving bucket by
Adylan Ayer and another 3-pointer by Rake that made it 35-all. UMSL outscored the Saints by seven to close the quarter for a 44-37 lead with 10 minutes to play.

The Tritons opened the fourth with a bucket before the Saints responded Hawthorne knocked down a jumper, and Schadewalt sank three free throws.
Annika Pluemer made a layup to pull the Saints to within 48-44. Maryville was still down just 49-46 with 2:19 left but the Tritons scored seven unanswered points to take their largest lead of the game. Stugart drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to trim the deficit to 56-52 with 16.1 seconds to go but the Saints rally ended there.
