ST. LOUIS – Upper Iowa hit a jumper with 1.7 seconds left in the game to edge the Maryville women's basketball team 54-52 in a hard fought defensive battle.
Lindsey Schadewalt led the Saints with 12 points, while
Gracie Stugart finished with 11 points and seven assists.
Faith Hawthorne pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints trailed by 10 points to start the fourth quarter but surged all the way into the lead. Schadewalt made one free throw to start the rally, and
Annika Pluemer scored on a drive. Hawthorne tallied in traffic before
Claire Rake drilled a long wing 3-pointer to pull the Saints to within two.
Â
The Peacocks scored on a jumper but Stugart answered. Schadewalt hit two at the line for a 47-47 tie with 6:19 to play. UIU went back on top 51-47 before
Adylan Ayer took over. She had a three-point play, and her bucket off a Stugart feed in transition put the Saints ahead 52-51 with 1:54 remaining. UIU tied the game at 52-all on a free throw before both teams misfired on their next chances. The Peacocks got the ball back with the shot clock off, and Mia Huberty sank a turnaround jumper from the right wing for the game-winning bucket. The Saints had a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer but the attempt did not find the range as Upper Iowa escaped with the win.
