ST. LOUIS – Senior day was an eventful affair for the Maryville women's basketball team as it saw it's matchup with the No. 22-ranked and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) leading Lewis Flyers go to overtime, with the Saints falling 76-75. Three different Saints scored in double figures with
Lindsey Schadewalt and
Faith Hawthorne both dropping twenty-point performances in the loss.

SENIOR DAY
Before the action could get started, it was time for the Saints to celebrate their seniors. The group included Hawthorne,
Claire Rake and
Gracie Stugart. Hawthorne celebrated a career that saw her cross the 400-career point threshold, appearing in over 90 games for Maryville. Rake, a grad-transfer from Truman, ended her time in red as one of the deadliest three-point shooters in the league, making 62 this season.
Â
Stugart has been one of the best pure passers in Maryville University history, and she currently leads the nation in assists, while having already broken the season record for assists and currently has 175. In just two seasons with the Saints, she ranks second all-time with 299 assists

HOW IT HAPPENED
On the back of a stellar third quarter, the Saints held a ten-point lead over the league leading Flyers. That lead did not hold, with a poor fourth quarter shooting plaguing the Saints, allowing the visitors to claw back into the ballgame. A pair of made free-throws with just 1:13 left on the clock brought it to 71-69 into the final stretch. After the Saints were unable to secure the dagger, Lewis ran down the floor, nailing the game tying layup with just 26 seconds left. The Saints were able to get a last second shot off that just rimmed out, leaving the game to be decided in OT.
Â
Schadewalt immediately got the Saints on the board with a jumper just a minute into extra time. She went onto to tie the game again by sinking a pair of clutch free throws with 1:18 on the clock. A foul sent the Flyers right back to the line with just five seconds left, sinking one of two, giving Maryville a chance to win the game. A last second three by Rake bounced three times off the rim, falling off back iron to leave the game 76-75.
