Corona Hammers Two Homers as Saints Split Day One in Kansas City

,KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Maryville softball team, in its first day at the Midwest Collegiate Classic, split its results, falling 8-0 in five innings to Rogers State before unleashing its own eight-run game against Washburn for a 8-3 win.

Emily Corona was the long-ball leader of the Saints versus the Washburn Ichabods, taking two pitches out of the yard for her first career multi-homer game. Her four RBIs marks a new season high as she becomes the second Saint to hit two bombs in a game this season, with Kaitlyn Wagner doing it against Northwest Missouri State a weekend ago.

GAME 1| #8 ROGERS STATE 8, MARYVILLE 0
Battling their second top 25 foe of the season, the Hillcats struck early, hitting a two-run bomb in the bottom of the first for the first runs of the contest. A four spot in the third put the Saints down six with Mandi Lenon's hit being the only offense the Saints could generate.

Two more runs in the bottom of the fourth off the long ball instituted the run rule as the game ended in five.

GAME 2 | MARYVILLE 8, WASHBURN 3
It was the Saints time to strike early and Corona did it in a big way with her first home run of the year. The Ichabods, seeing Maryville using the long ball, did the same with a homer in the top of the second to make it 1-1. A Cora Boyle RBI single and yet another Corona long ball—this one with two runners on—left it 6-1 after the second inning.

Boyle kept up her clutch hitting, singling to right, allowing Addison Koth to score. A double steal by Boyle and Cailynn Gdowski left the Saints up 7-1 after just the third frame.

A pair of Ichabod runs, including their second home run of the game, brought the lead down to four, but Kaitlyn Wagner's RBI groundout in the fourth made it a five run lead which held through the end.

Chayse Ramey picked up her fifth win of the season in the circle, striking out six over seven frames.
