Baseball Drops Series Finale Doubleheader to S&T

ST. LOUIS – The Maryville baseball team fell in both games of its Sunday doubleheader to Missouri S&T, the first via a score of 17-11, and game two to a score of 6-1.

GAME 1 | MISSOURI S&T 17, MARYVILLE 11
The Saints got the action going early, plating a run in the first off a Josh Herget single. Jace Burton and Cole Christman combined for three more runs in the second, before a pair of back-to-back dingers by Burton and Ambrose Russo left it at 6-0 heading into the top of the fourth.

That top of the fourth could not have gone any worse for the Saints as they surrendered 16 runs on eight hits and two errors. The big hit, a three-run homer, made it 16-6 to end the frame.

Maryville slowly chipped away, adding runs in the fifth, sixth as well as a crooked number in the bottom of the seventh, but the Miners were too much to overcome.

GAME 2 | MISSOURI S&T 6, MARYVILLE 2
While the offensive barrage from the Miners was the story of game one, the shutout startingt pitching was game two. The Miners starter tossed his first complete game, only giving up two hits on one run over seven innings of baseball.

The lone Saints run came in the third inning where Dominic Sharp reached on a fielders choice, allowing Aaris Stolte to score.

Brayden Rubel was clutch out of the pen for the Saints, tallying three innings of scoreless, one hit ball to keep the game close. Nolan Miller got the final four outs of the game, striking out a batter in the process.
