ST. CHARLES, MO. – The Maryville women's basketball team advanced to the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Championship game Sunday at 3:30 pm in Hyland Arena by upsetting top-seed Lewis 73-59.
Lindsey Schadewalt, the GLVC Freshman of the Year, led four Saints in double figures with 17 points. The Maryville defense held Lewis to 31.3 percent shooting from the field. The Saints advance to the their first GLVC title game since the last of three straight title game appearances in 2014. Maryville won its only GLVC Tournament crown in 2012.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints grabbed the early lead and stayed in front for nearly 37 minutes of game play. Up 9-8, Schadewalt drained consecutive 3-pointers for a 15-8 advantage. She hit her third of the quarter as the Saints eventually took a one-point lead after the first. Lewis took its only lead of the game at 21-19 but the Saints answered with six straight by
Faith Hawthorne to retake the lead. Leading by four, Schadewalt's jumper sparked a 9-0 run, capped by
Caden Krohn's layup for a 38-25 lead. The Saints took a 38-28 lead into the break.

The Saints pushed their advantage to as many as 13 points as
Alicia Burgos scored on a layup for a 47-34 lead midway through the third. The cushion stayed in double digits as a late Burgos jumper handed Maryville a 57-45 edge going into the final quarter. The Flyers made a push and slowly cut into the Maryville margin. The Saints still led 61-55 with six minutes to play before Burgos scored inside, and Pluemer added a layup to re-stablish a double-digit lead of 65-55. Later, three free throws built the margin to 68-57 with 2:33 remaining and the Saints cruised to upset the No. 1 seeded Flyers.
