ST. LOUIS  – The Maryville men's volleyball team closed out the 2025 IVA Tournament with a second-place finish Saturday. The Saints put on a reverse sweep of Missouri S&T to reach the championship match with a 23-25, 26-28, 26-24, 25-20, 15-10 victory. However, the Saints fell in the title match to top-seed Lincoln Memorial 23-25, 25-19, 20-25, 19-25 as Maryville's 10-match winning streak came to an end with a second-place finish.

The Miners hit over .300 in both sets one and two to take the lead. The Saints rallied in sets three and four to come all the way back and force a decisive fifth set. The Saints inched out to a 5-2 lead before the Miners chipped away. Missouri S&T closed to 7-6 before
Cameron Lee had a kill to start a 3-0 run.
Ethan Beyreis-Heim tipped in two straight kills for a 10-6 advantage.

The Miners answered with three straight points to make it 10-9. After a Doran kill, the Miners committed an error. Missouri S&T had one kill to get back to within 12-10. The Saints took over from there. After a Miner service error, Doran drilled down a kill. At match point,
Makai Scott hammered in a kill to end the contest. In the finale, the Saints hit .500 with 10 kills on just one error while limiting the Miners to a .095 hitting percentage. Beyreis-Heim distributed a program-record 53 assists in the match.

Set one was taut throughout as neither team led by more than two points. The score was tied a stunning 21 times. The Saints pulled ahead 23-22 on a Kraft kill but LMU scored three straight to take the opener. The Saints hit .303 in the first set but the Railsplitters were even better at .516.

Set two saw the Saints defense step up and hold LMU to just a .188 hitting percentage. The Saints took the early lead by scoring four of the opening five points. Doran and Beyreis-Heim had a block, and after a kill by Doran, Kraft followed. An LMU error pushed the Saints ahead 4-1. Maryville went on a 4-1 run to build an 8-3 edge. LMU pulled back to 12-10 before an error, an ace by Lee and a kill by Scott made it 15-11. The Railsplitters got as close as 15-12 but the Saints scored three straight points. After a Scott kill, Kraft served an ace and had a kill for an 18-12 lead. LMU closed to within three but kills by Doran and Kraft drew the Saints even at 1-1.

LMU led for most of set three until the Saints tied it at 14-all. The Railsplitters scored four straight points to eventually build a 20-15 lead. Doran put down a ball to chop the LMU lead to 22-19 but that would be as close as Maryville would get. In the final set, LMU took a 10-6 lead before the Saints rallied. Lee and Doran had solo blocks, and an LMU error trimmed the deficit to 10-9. However, LMU used a 5-0 spree and built a 19-12 margin. Trailing 23-14, the Saints scored five of the next six points and saved three match points. However, Johan Negron had a kill to close out the title for LMU.
