SMITHVILLE, MO. –
Fernanda Diaz-Pizarro was the medalist at the Kansas City Cup and helped the Maryville golf team take second place in the team competition. In a tournament that was shortened to 36 holes due to weather and course conditions at Paradise Pointe Golf, Diaz-Pizarro shot 72-71 and finished at 3-under-par 141 to take the title by five shots. The Saints carded rounds of 311-304=615 to finish second to McKendree by just one stroke.
Diaz-Pizarro fired six birdies in her opening round, including four in a five-hole stretch and finished one-under par. She followed up with four more birdies in her second round en route to a two-under round at 71 to best the field of 37 individuals.
Kelly Wang finished in fourth place overall after posting scores of 74-77=151.
Kylie Yiengst also posted a top-10 finish as her rounds of 78-78=156 was good for sixth place overall.
Chloe Fong came home with scores of 88-78=166, while
Sydney Coziar shot 87-88=175.
McKendree won the team competition with a score of 614 to narrowly edge out the Saints in the field of seven teams.
