Box Score 2 BRANSON, Mo. – The Maryville softball team went 2-0 at the DII Classic in Branson, Missouri. The Saints walked off Northwest Missouri State in the opener for a 3-2 win, then followed with another 3-2 victory over Christian Brothers.
GAME 1 | Maryville 3, NWMSU 2
After the Bearcats scored two in the first inning, it was rally time for the Saints. The comeback did not begin until the fourth, when
Addison Koth hammered her first home run of the season to the opposite field to cut the lead in half.
An inning later,
Jenna Kosnoff tied the game at 2-2 with a double into the right-center gap, scoring the speedy
Payton Deakin in the process.
Pitching dominated from there, with neither team able to capitalize on baserunners in the sixth or seventh, forcing extra innings.
Aubrey Scieszinski stranded a runner at third in the top of the eighth to give Maryville a chance to walk it off. A Koth walk put runners at first and second, and a sacrifice bunt moved both into scoring position for freshman
Addison Wolf.
All Wolf needed was a single to center field to bring home the winning run and secure the walk-off victory.
GAME 2 | Maryville 3, Christian Brothers 2
Pitching once again set the tone in the Saints' second contest of the day.
Mia Maxel started in the circle, working two innings while allowing one earned run and striking out three. Scieszinski, in her second relief appearance of the day, went the final five innings and allowed just one run.
Offensively, the Saints had to chase the lead again but responded. Christian Brothers scored in the second and third innings, and it took until the fifth for Maryville to string together quality at-bats.
The rally began with a Deakin leadoff walk, followed by
Mandi Lenon being hit by a pitch to put two on with no outs. Kosnoff delivered an RBI single to break the shutout and move Lenon to third. A perfectly placed sacrifice bunt by
Marley Williamson tied the game at 2-2 after five innings.
The tie was short-lived. Koth went deep on the sixth pitch of her at-bat in the sixth inning for the game-winning run.
