Box Score UMSL boxscore in PDF

Mikaela Lahm had the third-highest single-match hitting percentage in school history with a .545 mark but could not prevent the Maryville volleyball Saints from dropping a narrow 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 27-25) decision to Missouri-St. Louis. Lahm had 15 kills, three errors on 22 swings to post her .545 hitting percentage, the highest since Maggie Hoette recorded a .581 mark Oct. 10, 2008.

In the first set, the Saints scored five straight points to charge to a 12-6 lead. Maryville held its largest lead of the set at 14-7 but the Tritons scored eight straight points to take a lead they would not give up. The Saints were down 17-14 before tying the set at 17-all. Two straight UMSL points provided a 19-17 margin as they held on to take the second set 25-22.

Maryville scored the first three points of set three and led until UMSL turned an 8-7 deficit to a 13-7 advantage. Laura Welling had three kills in a Maryville run that drew them to a tie at 16-16. UMSL held a 22-21 lead and scored two straight to reach match point. The Saints answered on a kill by Lahm, a block by Welling and Taryn Trubich and an UMSL error to knot the score at 24-24. However, tied at 25-25, UMSL scored two straight to close the match.

Hana Michael added nine kills, while Welling chipped in eight kills. Trubich distributed 35 assists, the most in a match this season for the Saints. Julia Greaves and Hannah Seitter tied for the team lead with 10 digs. Liz Jaeger had 12 kills to lead UMSL, while Chelsea Burkle added 10 kills.

The Saints are now 1-11, 0-3 in the league. The Tritons win their third straight and stand at 4-7, 3-0 in the GLVC. Maryville is back in action Friday, Sept. 21, at William Jewell.
