The Maryville men's soccer team looks to return to its winning ways with two home games this weekend. The Saints are in action at Maryville University Soccer Field Friday, Sept. 21, in a 2 p.m. game versus William Jewell. Maryville welcomes nationally-ranked Rockhurst in another 2:30 start Sunday, Sept. 23
MORE ON MARYVILLE:
Matt Bearley and
Gus Reinitz both have tallied two goals each this year to top the Saints.
Alex Brown has distributed a team-best three assists.
James Hohenstein has played the majority of the time in goal and has posted a 1.64 GAA and made 15 saves in seven games.
ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL:
The Cardinals are 4-1 and have won three straight to stand at 3-1 in the GLVC. Forrest McCurren is one of the league’s top scorers and has found the back of the net five times, with Matt McDevitt adding four goals. Joe Keeven has allowed five goals in five games and played every minute in goal.
ABOUT ROCKHURST:
The Hawks are No. 5 in this week’s NSCAA Top 25 poll at 5-0-1, 4-0-0 in the GLVC. The duo of Mark Magee and Nick McDonald have both scored four goals and two assists for 10 points to top the Hawks. Ryan Bass has surrendered just four goals in six appearances and has a 0.62 GAA.
RECAPPING LAST WEEK:
Gus Reinitz scored twice as the Saints pounded Kentucky Wesleyan 4-0.
Zach Bavol’s goal in the 27th minute proved to be the game winner, and
Matt Bearley closed out the scoring for Maryville. Southern Indiana scored two second half goals Sunday en route to a 2-0 victory.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Saints venture back on the road Friday, Sept. 28, for a 5 p.m. game at Drury. Maryville continues the away schedule with a Noon contest in Rolla, Mo., at Missouri S&T.
