The Maryville volleyball team rallied from two sets down to force a decisive fifth set, but the Saints fell short 3-2 versus William Jewell. The Cardinals won 25-22, 26-24, 20-25, 12-25, 15-8. The defeat spoiled a near record performance by libero Ali Lampen who had 40 digs, the second most in a match in Saints history.

In the first set, the Saints were down 20-15 but scored three of the next four points to close in on the Cardinals. Hannah Seitter tipped in a ball, and William Jewell committed an error. Taryn Trubich's ace pulled the Saints to 20-17. After a Cardinals kill, Grace Balcerak finished off a pass to get to 21-18. Maryville was still down 22-18 but another kill by Balcerak and two WJC errors drew the Saints to within one point. Mikaela Lahm had Maryville's final kill but William Jewell scored the last two points.

The Saints trailed most of set two and still were down 15-12 before embarking on a 4-0 burst. The Cardinals had two hitting errors and a kill by Seitter tied the set at 15-15. Maryville finally went ahead on a WJC error for a 16-15 edge. A Julia Greaves kill handed the Saints a 19-18 lead. William Jewell answered and built a 22-19 lead before the Saints responded with five straight points. Greaves had a kill, and WJC posted back-to-back hitting errors. Laura Welling terminated on two straight plays as the Saints reached set point. However, the Cardinals tallied the last four points of the set.

Set three was tied at 18-18 before a Lahm kill and Seitter ace pushed the Saints on top 20-18. The Cardinals answered with a kill but Maryville embarked on a 4-0 run. After two WJC miscues, Lahm had a kill and Welling recorded an ace. Lahm eventually had a kill on set point for the Saints.

Maryville dominated set four using an 8-0 run to surge ahead. With the contest tied at 2-2, Welling's kill ignited the big run for the Saints, and back-to-back kills by Lahm and Hana Michael ended it. The Cardinals got as close as 14-7 until the Saints sealed the win with a 5-0 burst. The Saints hit a match-high .414 in the set while holding the Cardinals to a .048 hitting percentage to force the final set.

The Saints were poised to complete the big comeback but the Cardinals settled themselves down by scoring seven of the first eight points of the set. Maryville made a mini-charge and cut the gap to 9-4 but that would be as close as the Saints would get as William Jewell held on for the win. Kaylee Marquardt led the Cardinals with 15 kills and 17 digs.

Lahm led the Saints with 16 kills while hitting .350 in the match. Welling added 12 kills and eight digs for the Saints. Lampen's 40 digs trail only the school record of 46 set by Nicole Raess Oct. 22, 1996.
