On a windy day in St. Joseph, Mo., the Maryville women's tennis team defeated Missouri Western 9-0. The Saints, who are now 3-0 in the spring season, will face Northwest Missouri State Saturday.
The Saints duo of Philine Schlorf and Adriana Armendariz eased to an 8-3 in at No. 1 doubles to get Maryville started. Anne Lutz and Renske Linders edged their foes 9-7 in the second doubles spot, and Marina Marti and Nicole Kitsuse combined to win the No. 3 doubles by an 8-6 margin.
Schlorf dropped just one game in winning at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1, and Marti took No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 decision. Armendariz was victorious at the third singles with a 6-4, 6-1 decision, while Lutz won a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) battle at No. 4. Linders eased to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, and Kituse closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the final singles slot.
